We are delighted to report that our excellent extra-curricular programme has now returned to pre-pandemic levels and, as part of this programme, the start of the new rugby season has gone well for the Isleworth & Syon School First XV.

With several former students now at university, our 2021-22 squad has re-formed with a number of new squad players from both Years 11 and 12. The pre-season preparation allowed the new boys to integrate seamlessly into the team and they have already formed a very promising outfit.

The first match of the season was an away trip to St. Ignatius School, Enfield on Saturday 4 September, and the team returned with an impressive and comfortable 59-14 victory. A more local game then took place against near-neighbours Orleans Park School on 15 September in the first round of the National Vase competition. The team played impressively for a 31-19 victory and now progress to round 2 against London Oratory.

A narrow loss at Windsor Boys (16-7) has been the only defeat to date, although Director of Rugby, Mr Mullins, is confident of overturning the result next season. The final September fixture saw a number of the Year 13 students away on a Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award assessed expedition. As a result, the team reverted to U17s format and won a close-fought contest against Richmond-upon-Thames School by 15-12.

With such a young squad, there is much to look forward to over the remainder of the season and for the next two or three seasons ahead. Follow their progress via the PE department’s Twitter account – @IsleworthSyonPE.
