Our next I&S Inspires guest has now been confirmed for Thursday 7 November. We are delighted to welcome civil engineer Ed McCann into school, following last month’s esteemed guest, BBC journalist Gabriel Gatehouse. Following October’s journalism focus, November takes a new tack, with Ed’s talk focusing on his career in engineering to date and how students can pursue this post-education pathway. This is another fantastic chance for students to experience different voices and stories, something which we think is invaluable for their development. That is the Isleworth & Syon way.

Educated locally and at Imperial College London, Ed’s career has seen him being involved in engineering and construction projects around the world. Ed graduated from Imperial with a civil engineering degree in 1989 and in his working life he has been involved in projects like Terminal 5 at Heathrow, the Velodrome for the Olympics and sewerage schemes in India. Ed is a recognised leader in the construction industry and is currently a Senior Director at the company Expedition Engineering. He is also the current Vice President of the Institution of Civil Engineers.

The talk will take place on Thursday 7 November from 3.00 – 4.00pm. All students are welcome to attend, but the talk will be particularly useful to those already considering careers in civil engineering, structural engineering, and construction, or have an interest in maths, science and design technology. We hope that the talk, and the question-and-answer session afterwards, will inspire the next generation of engineers!
