In a project funded by the Mayor of London’s Fund for Young Musicians, some of our music students had the opportunity to work with the Philharmonia Orchestra and students from across Hounslow and Kingston. The project – titled ‘Play on Create’ – culminated in a performance at the Rose Theatre, Kingston on Monday 8 July 2013.

Isleworth & Syon students belatedly joined the project when another school dropped out and quickly got up to speed with the group composition work. Working after school each week with professional musicians, the thirty students from school thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to create their own piece of music.

The performance of Tinie Tempah’s ‘Written in the Stars’ drew acclaim from the members of the audience. Mr Evans (Assistant Headteacher) was representing the school and was clear that the boys “did the school proud” with their inspiring performance. Mr Evans was also especially impressed with the wide range of instruments played by the I&S students.

It is great to witness the increasing profile of music at Isleworth & Syon. Miss Andrews and Miss Lumber have great plans to further enhance the provision during the next school year as we aspire to be ‘outstanding in every respect’.
