Key Stage 4 Options

Introduction

Thank you for your interest in the Key Stage 4 Options process. All students in Year 9 undertake this process during the Spring and Summer Terms, to give them an element of choice over the subjects that they will study at Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11).

Our aim is to maximise the achievements of each individual student in the various GCSE courses or vocational qualifications. We are aware that a similar diet of subjects is not appropriate for every single student, so we provide a range of courses to help ensure that each student can maximise his potential at Key Stage 4. The pastoral team and the teaching staff spend considerable time thinking about each individual student as we plan for their progression. Students will be supported throughout the process to help them make their choice.

The Key Stage 4 Courses Evening will take place on Thursday 12 March 2026. Mr McAlinden’s PowerPoint presentation from the evening will be available to view afterwards.

Please read all of the sections below completely and thoroughly.

Before Your Application

Before completing your application, ensure that you read the Key Stage 4 Course booklet completely and thoroughly. This booklet contains vital curriculum information about each of the subjects that Isleworth & Syon will be offering from 2025-2027.

The booklet will be available to view soon.

Completing Your Application

All Key Stage 4 course choices must be submitted electronically through the application form. Students will be emailed the direct link on Monday 16 March.

Students will make three firm choices, as well as three reserve choices from Options 2 & 3. Your reserve selections must not be the same as your previous three choices. Please note that all options are preferences, but they cannot be guaranteed. There must be sufficient interest in each course for it to be run.

Students must select different subjects for all of their choices; students should not choose the same subject in more than one option box.

At Key Stage 4, Isleworth & Syon School offers a mixture of GCSE and vocational courses.

If you have any queries about the application process, please email Mr McAlinden directly.

If you are experiencing technical difficulties with the application form, please contact the school.

After Your Application

Once your application has been submitted, it will pass to Mr McAlinden, Assistant Headteacher - Pastoral Leader KS3, who will consider your submission.

Students will be contacted towards the end of the Summer Term 2026, once the data has been processed.

If you wish to make any amendments to your application after submission, please do this by contacting Mr McAlinden via email – do not submit a new form.
