Wider Learning Week 2026 - Year 12
Wider Learning Week (WLW) is one of our favourite weeks in school, as students come off their usual timetables to participate in enriching learning experiences—in both familiar and new contexts. Throughout the week, students are challenged, with activities designed to promote wider understanding and develop independence. Find out more below - this website also has reports on the Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9 weeks.
For the Year 12 week, we wanted to introduce students to the process of applying to university, and prepare them for Year 13 and career pathways. Students stayed in their form groups and completed a range of activities during the week:
- Tutor Day – reflecting on the year so far and the progress that they have made, as well as completing their 'Passport to Year 13'.
- UCAS onboarding – introducing students to the platform and discussing how to craft a good personal statement
- Golf trip - a trip to Hounslow Golf Park for some physical activity, with a competitive edge (pictured)!
- Brunel University trip - a fascinating session to help students get a feel for university life, including two sample lectures
- Health Day – workshops and talks from visiting organisations, CoppaFeel and Hounslow Sexual Health
This was a brilliant day which really helped students to focus on their pathway going forward - which will only benefit them when it comes to their classroom learning and independent study in Year 13. Well done everyone for a brilliant week!
