Sports Leaders Support PE Conference
Our Year 12 Sports Leaders did a superb job hosting the local Sport Impact Conference, taking place at the Allianz Stadium in Twickenham. This conference was titled "Leading Change" and brought together schools, public health organisations and the youth sport sector to discuss how the PE education landscape is changing and developing. Year 13 Ollie Gilmour opened the whole event, talking openly and passionately about how school PE was formative in his holistic development - helping him to learn compassion, empathy and kindness. He specifically name-checked his I&S teachers as critical to this growth. Our group of talented musicians performed throughout the conference.
We were thrilled to send members of our Level 3 Sports Leaders programme to the event to host and support its smooth running. This included problem-solving throughout, as well as being tour guides and providing general support. Students were absolutely excellent - indeed one of the independent security guards at the event told Mr Mullins that he had never seen a group of students as good as ours! Well done to the eight-strong group for being such outstanding ambassadors for our school.
This event was a great example of how the Sports Leadership programme continues to thrive. This project showcases our wider ‘learners as leaders’ philosophy, boosting students' personal development. We run two awards - the Level 1 for Year 9 and the Level 3 for Year 12. For the former, students learn how to be a Sports Leader and contribute to borough-wide primary school events. At the more senior level, students are delivering a programme of PE lessons within our own Key Stage 3 curriculum as well as supporting multiple Hounslow primary athletics championships plus our own Track & Field Championships this June. It is fantastic watching our Sports Leaders grow throughout the year as they build their skills.
