Science Cultural Capital Challenge - Autumn Term 2
Science Cultural Capital 2
Following the science team's successful Cultural Capital Challenge in Autumn Term 1, the second challenge was eagerly anticipated. As a reminder, "cultural capital" can be defined as key knowledge students need to be well-rounded citizens ready for the wider world, as well as creating an appreciation of human creativity. The second science challenge of the year, then, was themed around Sir Joseph Swan, the inventor of the incandescent lightbulb. He used his invention to light the first building in Britain, the Savoy Hotel. This landmark was the first place in the UK to showcase electric Christmas lighting; every year, it has extraordinary decorations across the building. Students' challenge was the find the Savoy Hotel and either take a photo of the Christmas lights or find another festively-decorated building. You can see the results in the slideshow above - well done everyone.
