Road Safety - Sixth Form Presentation
Once students reach the Sixth Form, many of them are legally able to drive. With that in mind, we partnered with the London Borough of Hounslow on a special initiative focused on keeping the streets and roads safe. The council’s Theatre in Education team came into school for a special presentation focused on two aspects – driver safety and responsible passenger behaviour. It was a really interesting session, talking about the science behind why boys often take more risks and encouraging passengers to “call their mates out” when they are not driving safely. It was reinforced to the group the importance of always being attentive on the road and not being distracted, as this can cause serious accidents.
This thought-provoking session was compulsory for all Sixth Form students and formed part of the Year 12 enrichment programme, where students come off timetable once a half-term for a dedicated PSHE and careers curriculum, advice and guidance. Feedback from students was very positive, with a consensus that the session was helpful and eye-opening.
