Rail Safety Accreditation

This academic year, we have partnered with Network Rail and South Western Railway as part of the 'Rail Safe Wessex' programme. The purpose of the scheme is to keep young people safe by raising awareness of the risks associated with local railways - both to themselves and to other railway users. This includes:

  • On the platform
  • On the train
  • At railway crossings.

We work closely with the British Transport Police to ensure high standards with students travelling to and from school. Ultimately, most young people travel by train once they go to secondary school, so it is key that students know how to keep themselves safe across the network. During 2024-25, we joined a Learn Live online session to educate students and repeated the messaging in our weekly newsletter as well as in our assemblies. As a result, we have been given a Rail Safe Wessex plaque to display in school (pictured). This accreditation honours our commitment to keeping students safe on the railways. We are also listed as a Rail Safe Wessex school at our local station.
