Music for Youth Proms - Royal Albert Hall

Music for Youth Proms - Albert Hall

The school is proud to give students unique opportunities that they can’t get anywhere else locally. This is especially true within our thriving performing arts department – a key strength of the school. On Wednesday (11 November), 18 I&S musicians performed at the Royal Albert Hall, one of the most prestigious music venues in the world! Their performance formed part of the Music for Young Proms, with students performing three pieces as part of the ‘Creative Project’ ensemble. They were joined by other young musicians from across the UK for the superb performance.

We were so proud of our students, who did an incredible job in front of a sold-out crowd of 5,000 people. We are already planning more partnerships like this, including taking part in the National Festival series and competing against other schools. This may lead to other performances at huge venues across the UK! We hope that this opportunity has inspired them to continue their musical journeys, both as part of our in-school ensembles as well as outside of school.

Finally, below you can find a video from the day, featuring Michael Aina (Year 11) on the bugle. He is playing ‘The Last Post’ for Armistice Day before the national two-minute silence. What a fantastic and unique experience for him – and a superb video as well.
