Languages for All Launch Event

This year, we have been delighted to take part in the Languages for All programme, a project run by The Reach Foundation alongside Royal Holloway (University of London). The aim is to support and encourage school pupils across Hounslow to continue their language studies at A level. A targeted group of students in Year 11 were identified as "high potential linguists" by their teachers, qualifying them for this exciting project.

The launch event took place at Royal Holloway, University of London. Students loved seeing the beautiful campus, as it gave them a taste of what university life may look like. The day of activities followed a similar vein, showcasing the benefits of studying language as well as exploring degrees and careers linked to languages. Students enjoyed a campus tour and treasure hunt led by student ambassadors, as well as a German taster session - the latter gave students a real insight into what language lessons are like at university. After lunch, the boys had a great careers network session with linguists from industry before heading home in the minibus. When asked for the most valuable part of the trip, one student said that they loved "meeting students [who told] us about their experiences", while another commented that they came away with a renewed understanding of how important it is to learn a language.
