Our CTEC Sport course remains a very popular choice at Sixth Form, as part of our broad and successful vocational offer. Within that course, students can earn an Emergency First Aid at Work certificate, a nationally-recognised additional qualification which can be hugely beneficial for future employment. Indeed, after taking the course students are certified for three years. The school part-subsidised the session, which took place at the end of January.

We were delighted to welcome an external facilitator into school to deliver the session, with students taught about typical accidents and injuries that can happen in the workplace. Students learned how they would treat them in a fun yet realistic way, including trying out CPR on the dummies as pictured above. It was a brilliant session, and the facilitator Sheena was highly complimentary about the students saying,

Our first aid session today was fabulous. All students were thoroughly engaged and committed. [They] had very appropriate questions and were excellent at practicals.

Students were equally enthused by the experience. One said that they "learned a lot and found it very engaging" while another described is as "fun, enjoyable and very interactive". The group were particularly grateful about the skills that could help them save a life in the future.
