Alumni - Timmy Gecer Makes Championship Rugby Debut
We were thrilled to hear a few weeks ago that former student Timmy Gecer has made his Championship rugby debut for Nottingham Rugby. The Championship is the second tier of English rugby union, making this an impressive achievement for a young man who only left I&S less than five years ago.
Timmy spent seven years as an Isleworthian before heading to Northumbria University to read sport & exercise science. Upon joining in Year 7, Timmy had never played rugby before! However, under the tutelage of Mr Mullins he developed his talent, representing the school team at every age range. Indeed, he was picked as vice-captain of the first XV in his final year, showcasing how much he had grown as a player and a leader as well. While in Year 11, he was also part of the quad for the Middlesex county under-18s – very unusual in a team full of Sixth Formers.
With this pedigree, it was only natural that he would continue to pursue rugby during his degree. He played regularly for the university in their very competitive league while on a rugby union scholarship. He has also played senior men’s international rugby for Turkey, as well as enjoying stints in Western Australia as part of the Southern Lions.
Now, Timmy is undertaking a master’s degree in marketing at the University of Durham, as well as continuing to be part of the rugby first team squad at Nottingham. The sky is the limit for this ambitious young man, and we cannot wait to see what he gets up to next!
