Alumni Talk - Software Engineer
During National Careers Week, we were delighted to welcome former student Hasseeb Hussain into school to talk to Sixth Form students about his journey. Hasseeb left I&S in 2018 at the end of Year 13 for a computer science undergraduate degree at Royal Holloway, University of London. Since then, he has truly flourished, starting with creating a campus app while at university and then co-founding his own software business as well as working in Fintech. He now works as a Full-Stack Product Engineer at Civic Marketplace.
During the talk, Hasseeb spoke with real passion about his journey into software engineering, sharing valuable insights that truly resonated with our learners. He emphasised the importance of:
- Networking early – building connections now that can open doors later.
- Creating something real – working on projects that genuinely matter to you.
- Getting comfortable with being confused – embracing the learning process, especially in tech.
- Not being afraid to put your work out there – sharing builds confidence and helps you grow.
Our students left inspired, motivated, and encouraged to take their next steps with confidence. Student feedback was fantastic - with students describing the talk as motivating, relatable, and exactly what they needed to hear. Thank you to Hasseeb for giving his time and inspiring the next generation of Isleworthians.
