29 June 2026

Dear Parent/Carer,

Wider Learning Week 2026
Year 8 Day-by-Day Reminders

Wider Learning Week (WLW) will run from Monday 6 – Friday 10 July 2026. You son/ward will take part in a range of exciting activities across the week designed to promote wider understanding, independence, and challenge.

Ahead of WLW, please see below a reminder of the timetable and key points for what is sure to be an exciting and engaging week.

Key Points

  • Canteen will be open as normal for on-site students.
  • Full school uniform should be worn, and equipment brought as normal.
  • Students are allowed to wear plain black trainers for their Film Day and MFL Day trips.
  • Students will need to wear their school PE Kit (House top) to school on whichever day they are participating in Nutrition Day.
  • A packed lunch (FSM students will be provided with one), plus a bottle of water and suncream needed for Film Day and MFL Day trips.
  • Students will be meeting in different rooms each day – these will be displayed on screens around the school, so they need to check when they arrive each morning.

Description

Codebreaking

Students will spend a day learning about the history of ciphers and codes and spend time breaking coded messages.

MFL Day

Students will start the day exploring the rich traditions of Spanish and French sports and games before walking to Redlees Park for a picnic lunch and the opportunity to play some of the sports, including pétanque and petanca. The afternoon will conclude back at school with a screening of a French or Spanish film.

Dragons’ Den

Students will be set a business challenge; they will work in groups and pitch to business Dragons.

Film Day

Students will spend the day exploring how music is used in cinema to create comedy and bring stories to life. They will also visit Osterley Park to take part in creative, performance-inspired group activities in a scenic outdoor setting.

Nutrition Day

Students will learn the key to nutrition for an athlete and take part in a cooking lesson delivered by The Pantry.

We look forward to a rewarding week. Normal high school standards and expectations apply; any student not meeting these may be removed from activities to resolve any issues and potentially conduct work independently.

Please do not hesitate to contact me or the pastoral team if you have any questions.

Yours faithfully,

Ms S Dieguez Colominas
Wider Learning Week Coordinator
