23 June 2026

Dear Parent/Carer,

Sixth Form Wider Learning Week 2026

Introduction

I am writing to inform you about our plans for Year 12 students during Wider Learning Week, which takes place from Monday 6 - Friday 10 July.

It is compulsory for all Year 12 students to attend sessions, even if presently they do not think they wish to apply to university. Students who have completed the Level 2 Public service course are required to attend on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

The aims of the sessions are:

  • To introduce students to the process of applying to university.
  • To register students on the UCAS website and support them in completing the personal details section.
  • To support students in improve the first draft of their personal statements, ensuring it is uploaded to the Unifrog website.
  • To help prepare students for Y13 studies and future career pathways.
  • To deliver a personal health day focusing on mental and sexual health.

Timetable for the Week

The timetable outlines when students are expected to be in school for activities. Download it below.

Timetable

Students are to sign into school during these times in the Sixth Form Study Area.

When not required to be in school, students are expected to complete post-16 planning activities such as refining their university course list, checking and booking university open days, and/or researching apprenticeship opportunities.

The sites linked below will be useful for these activities:

Off-Site Trips

Golf Park – Wednesday 8 July
We will provide some off-site enrichment activities for a small cost of £12, payable through SCOPAY (see ‘Next Steps’ below). Students will be required to make their own way to the Hounslow Golf Park to meet staff in order to experience the games range.

Brunel University – Thursday 9 July
This day trip will allow students to get a feel for life at a university. The day will involve key messages by different professors and will involve two example lectures – which can also serve as evidence for students’ personal statements.

The university are kindly providing a complimentary lunch, but student should bring a water bottle as it will be a warm day. Students will need to make their own way to the Brunel University campus to help develop their independent travelling skills. They will need to use public transport to Brunel University London, Kingston Lane, Uxbridge, UB8 3PN. If students are getting the bus/train to the campus, we will also have ambassadors waiting by the U3 bus stop (highlighted on campus map on Cleveland Road), where they will guide you to the welcome talk room.

For students to register on the day, they will need to complete this form by Friday 26 June.

Next Steps

Please complete both steps in your email by the deadline of of 9.00am on Tuesday 30 June.
