Geography Fieldwork - Seaford and Hurstpierpoint

Hands-on learning is key for students of geography. To that end, we give GCSE geographers regular chances to get out into the wider world and conduct fieldwork. In October, this meant that our three Year 11 groups headed to Seaford and Hurstpierpoint on the south coast. Students did well in variable weather conditions as they took part in fieldwork exercises on the beaches. This meant examining key coastal processes and management as well as land use.

Several students particularly enjoyed surveying members of the public about coastal features. It was the best way to put their classroom studies into practice, preparing them for planning their independent fieldwork later in the year.
