Duke of Edinburgh's Silver Award 2025
DofE Silver 2025
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) has been a popular choice in school since it began; indeed, we are still one of only a few local schools running all three levels – Bronze (Year 9), Silver (Year 10) and Gold (Sixth Form). Founded in 1956 by HRH Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, the award was designed to help young people build confidence, resilience, and purpose through structured challenges. The school has a rich legacy of delivery over the last 18 years, with hundreds of boys taking part in that time. The programme includes four core sections: Volunteering, Physical, Skills, and Expedition, plus a fifth Residential section at Gold level.
The benefits of the programme are many, encouraging young people to step outside their comfort zones through physical activity, volunteering and skill development. DofE helps Isleworth and Syon students develop independence, leadership, and resilience - qualities that support academic success and future careers. We know that it helps students’ personal growth and hones their resilience and leadership skills.
Last year’s Silver award students completed their assessed expedition in Dorset last week. 24 students took part in their multi-night expedition, which involved hiking over 40 kilometres in total! Students worked extremely hard, battling very difficult weather conditions. Indeed, the heavy wind and rain caused staff to take the decision to cut the trip short for safety reasons. Students alike handled the change of circumstances with maturity and resilience, and were a credit to themselves and the school. All of the students will still receive their Silver award for a job well done.
