Isleworth & Syon Releases School Album, ‘Playback’

Featuring 14 original tracks composed and performed by students

12 June 2018, Isleworth –

Isleworth & Syon School has released its very first music album, featuring 14 original tracks composed and performed entirely by students. You can view a clip above. The CD is called ‘Playback’, a title chosen by a student committee in consultation with staff. ‘Playback’ was released on 12 June 2018 and can be pre-ordered below for just £5. Physical copies will be available from Friday 15 June.

The album project is the culmination of months of hard work by both students and subject staff. The work features students from Year 8 all the way to Year 13, and it celebrates our students’ unique talents. Their individual personalities are expressed freely across all fourteen tracks, covering a wide range of genres including hip-hop, pop, rock, classical and rap.

The album has already had a great impact across the curriculum, with composition a key musical skill at GCSE level and beyond. Student passion and commitment has been fantastic, and many students have discovered previously unearthed talents as a result of the collaborative process. The entire album has been overseen by Declan McKeever, Subject Leader for Music, who said, “As head of department, I truly believe that students’ lives can be enriched through music. Through the composition and recording process I have seen this in action, and I think that this album can be a springboard to great things for those involved.”

Upon the launch, Headteacher Euan Ferguson said, “At school we continue to believe that creativity and the performing arts are vital to boys’ wellbeing. Projects like this are a testament not only to the students involved but also to my tireless team of staff who commit their time to ensure that Isleworth & Syon boys are given the best opportunities.”

CDs can be pre-ordered now through the school website. The album will be fully launched at the school’s Summer Arts Evening on Thursday 5 July, where over 150 boys from across the school will perform live across multiple stages. The event is the pinnacle of the school’s performing arts calendar and will feature a number of musical ensembles, drama performances, and art, media and design technology exhibitions. The event is open to all members of the local community, with tickets available from just £1. Find out more information at www.isleworthsyon.org/summerarts.
