Cricket

The 2017 outdoor season has got off to a superb start, with students of all ages (Years 7-13) taking part in numerous games across borough, county and eight-a-side competitions. Students have been working extremely hard in their after- (and sometimes before-) school sessions, and it has paid dividends. Year 8 progressed to the fourth round of the Middlesex Cup after an excellent win over Hampton School, while Year 7 had a great run in the same competition, before being beaten by John Lyons School. The same school emerged victorious over our seniors boys in the quarter finals. The boys are learning all the time and seem to be getting better and better – it’s clear that more success will come before the end of the academic year.

Athletics

Under the tutelage of Mr Mullins, our extremely talented athletes go from strength to strength, with our four top Year 7 athletes taking part in the Quad Kids competition (four students, four events), and our Year 8 boys doing well in the Super 8s tournament. We were delighted as our Year 9 boys won the borough athletics championships, retaining their title from last year. That particular cohort has frightening potential, and it is great to see them continue to live up to it. In the English Schools Athletics Championships, the Year 9 boys qualified for the next round against a very high standard – more to follow next month.

After half term is our annual Sports Day, with more information coming soon. There will be a big athletics push in the lead-up to that event; keep track of our school Twitter (@IsleworthSyon) and P.E. Twitter (@IsleworthSyonPE) for constant updates.

Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards

Our DofE preparation continues apace, with the bronze boys training each week after school for their practice expedition, scheduled for Wider Learning Week. Meanwhile, the silver students (Year 10) are currently on their own practice expedition in Swanage – early reports from the campsite are extremely positive, with the boys giving a great account of themselves.
